Keyword Density for SEO Blog Post
When you’re writing the perfect blog post for SEO, it’s not the number of keywords that matters, but the density of the keywords within the post. So “what is the best keyword density for SEO?”
If you stuff your post full of keywords, Google will detect it as unnatural and it will hurt your rankings. If you don’t use enough keywords, your efforts can be wasted. Remember, keyword density is determined by the amount of words you have in the post, so the same amount of keywords inserted into two different articles will have a different density depending on article’s length.
Keyword density should be no greater than 3% and preferably 1-2% of the article’s total word count. For this post, the keyword density for our keyword “blog post for SEO” is 1.4% and 1% for SEO blog post. There are many free, on-line keyword density checkers available but our favorite is the Live Keyword Analysis.
1st Paragrapgh
In a blog post for SEO, the first paragraph is an important place to use a keyword, as we have demonstrated. (keyword: SEO blog post) Your opening should be attention-getting but tell the reader what to expect in the rest of the content.
2nd Paragrapgh
Here’s where you sell the “value” of your post. Tell the reader what’s in it for them, and why they should care about what you are saying.
Subheads & Bullets in SEO Blog Posts
Subheads are another place to use keywords, but most importantly, they help the reader scan, or get through the content easily. Bullets are another helpful device, especially when you have a long list.
Post Title
Many users might not have yet realized that the title you write in the top bar is different than the one you write down in the SEO plugin’s bar.
The title that you write in the POST Title bar is the one that appears on your blog above your post’s description or on the header bar of your browser.
Whereas the SEO Title is the one that is tracked by the Search Engines and put up in their search results. Google shows up to 60 characters in their search results so it would be a better idea if you use as close to 60 characters as you can.
Post Heading {h1, h2, h3}
While your header tags do extend to h4, h5 and h6, we’re only going to focus on the first three since these are the tags that carry the most SEO value. Now, you can’t just go insert your header tags anywhere and expect to see results. Header tags have their own place on a page and have to be used in a proper order starting with your h1.
The h1 tag should contain your targeted keywords, ones that closely relate to the page title and are relevant to your content. The h2 tag is a subheading and should contain similar keywords to your h1 tag. Your h3 is then a subheading for your h2 and so on. Think of them as a hierarchy based on importance, the above being more important than the below.
Keep in mind that it’s also very import that your header tags are readable and grammatically correct. Stuffing your h1, h2 and h3 with keywords is not going to help your cause. If anything, Google will recognize this and assume you are trying to manipulate them — that’s a no-no!
An Example of how to use h1, h2, h3 header tags
This post or blog is actually an example of how to use your header tags. See below:
- My h1 = <h1>H1, H2 and H3 Header Tags for SEO</h1>
- My h2 = <h2>Why are h1, h2 and h3 header tags important for SEO?</h2>
- My h3 = <h3>How to use the h1, h2 and h3 tags</h3>
As you can see, I used my h1 to capture the overall theme of the post since it represents what’s most important. I then used my h2 as a subheading to reinforce my h1 and overall theme. The same can be said about my h3 and how it relates to my other headings and overall theme.
Header tags are a key component to SEO and can help improve your rankings on the search engines. Check your pages now and see if you’re using your h1, h2 and h3 correctly!
Image Alt Attribute ( Image Optimization )
Image Optimization Best-Practice #1: Alt Text
When you see a picture of a baby crying, you instantly recognize what’s going on in the picture.
The problem is, this instant recognition isn’t possible for search engine spiders at this time. Instead, you must help the spiders understand each of your images with alt text.
What is image alt text?
The short answer is, it’s the text that the search engine uses to understand images.
To include it, you simply add alt="this is your alt text" to your image tag. Here’s an example:
<img src="facebook-cover.jpg" alt="facebook cover" />
It’s that simple.
Image Optimization Best-Practice #2: File Name
Before you upload your image, pick a descriptive filename—preferably a file name you want that image to rank for—because it will help with your search engine rankings.
For example, if you want to see this in action, just do a sample search and view the images that rank. They almost always have the keyword you searched for in their file name.
Or, see the image below… here with WordPress SEO.
Post Interlinking and Anchor text
This is a crucial step while writing a blog post, especially when your blog has a very high bounce rate. Bounce rate is actually the percentage of the readers that run away from your blog without jumping to another page. How we work it out is that we link the old post on our blogs to the related words on our new blog post.

SEO Friendly URL Structure
1. Length of URL: Search engines don’t analyze and give any value after the initial 4 to 5 words in the URL.
Keep your URL short. Around 5 or less words in the URL produce the best possible results. Also, try to keep the keywords at the beginning. Because search engines give more importance to the initial keywords.
Most importantly – Your URL should be meaningful. Even looking at the Address-bar, a visitor should guess about the content of the page. Meaningless and haphazard looking URLs are a recipe for disaster.
2. Keyword stuffing in URL: Novice webmasters and SEOs usually do this practice. Don’t repeat your keywords in the URL, until and unless it is unavoidable to describe the page’s content.
Simply speaking – Your keywords should appear once in your URL.
3. Editing of existing URL: This is the worst thing you can do to your existing URL. Editing an already published URL affects your search engine ranking -Vely.
Moreover, you will lose all the social signals like Tweets, Facebook likes, Pinterest Pins etc. They will be ZERO, which affects your ranking. Checkout – How your search engine ranking can be affected by frequent editing of your blog post.
4. Pretty URL Vs. Ugly URL: By default, URLs are always ugly. An example of ugly URL is
http://YourDomain.com/index.php?page=67782
Pretty URL looks like
http://YourDomainName.com/seo/seo-friendly-url-structure
Pretty URLs are SEO friendly, easy to remember and meaningful. You should set the Permalink Structure for better SEO in your Blogger blog.
Basically you should structure your blog URL like either of the below two formats:
http://YourDomainName.com/blog-posthttp://YourDomainName/category/blog-post
I’m using the later one on my blog, which you are reading now.
5. Stop-words in URL: Stop words like ‘a’, ‘and’, ‘the’ etc. dilute the real value of keywords or long-tail keywords in the URL for which you have optimized your post.
Using a plugin to remove the stop-words is what I never advise. Better, remove the stop words manually. Human edited URL which makes sense is more powerful than automated one.
6. Use of hyphens: Don’t use underscore (_) or any other separators, instead, use hyphens (-)to separate the words.
Search engines have their own algorithms to identify different types of separators used in a URL. But, to construct a structurally better URL, you should stick to hyphens only as a separator.
7. Use only lower case: URL is case sensitive. So, never use a mix of upper and lower case characters.
